Today marks the first new game release in a while. This time I've added Phutball. Phutball, short for Philosopher's Football, is a very neat game that was invented by mathematician John Conway.
The game involves jumping, similar to checkers or draughts, but in a much less restricted fashion. As the players attempt to move the football to the goal, jumping can occur in any direction and multiple, adjacent men can be taken in a single jump. Determining whether or not a position can be won with a sequence of jumps is quite difficult (in fact it's an NP-Complete problem -- see Phutball Endgames Are Hard (pdf)).
As usual, the full rules are described on Phutball's about page, and you can play Phutball here
About the Bot
I've only implemented one bot for Phutball. I simply don't know enough about the game's strategy to develop any others at this time. As such, I'm very much looking forward to playing against other players (I'll have a number of open invites for Play-By-Mail).
Bugs
As with any new release of this size, I expect there will be bugs. If you find any, please feel free to post here, or contact me in chat over a game, or email.
Thanks and enjoy!
